I Stopped Explaining Myself to People

I stopped explaining myself to people when I realized explanation does not guarantee understanding. Sometimes people do not misunderstand us because we explained badly. They misunderstand because they have already decided what to believe. I can control my words, but I cannot control what another mind does with them. I still explain when I am wrong. I apologize when I hurt someone. But I no longer defend my entire existence. People can believe whatever they want. For me, freedom means accepting that you will be misunderstood. Follow the message. Not the messenger.
