When You're Tired and Still Have to Show Up

In this wisdom talk, we are going to learn four things.
One, tiredness is a feeling, not a verdict. You will learn that feeling tired does not decide what you are able to do. Your body may speak, but it does not make the final choice.
And second, motivation follows motion. You will understand why waiting to feel ready keeps you stuck, and why starting first brings the energy later.
Third, small steps repeated daily build great things. You will see how tiny, steady actions beat big bursts of effort, and how ordinary effort becomes greatness over time.
And fourth one, discipline is a form of self-love. You will learn that doing the hard thing today is a gift to your future self, and that nobody can give you the strength except you.
So, let us begin.
You see, nobody actually cares how tired you are. Do it anyway. This is the truth. That sentence sounds harsh. It is meant to. It does not hate you. It simply tells the truth about the world, and the truth, once you accept it, sets you free.
The world does not stop for your tiredness, right? It does not stop for anyone. The sun does not wait for you to feel ready. It does not say, "Oh, comb your hair well and I will come and bless you." It doesn't say anything like that. The bills do not pause because you slept badly, right? Either you're spiritual or non-spiritual, you have to pay your own electricity bill. Your dreams do not arrive at your door because you had a long week. So life moves forward whether you are rested or not. And the only question is whether you will move with it.
Are you seeing what I'm seeing?
Let me say something that most people never hear. Tiredness is a feeling, not a verdict. Actually, it tells you how you feel, but it does not tell you what you can do.
Every person who ever built something worth having was tired. The farmer was tired. The nurse was tired. The mother who worked two jobs was tired. Look how pathetic a society we are living in, which cannot understand the plight of women. What can we say? The student who studied by candlelight was tired too. They did not become great because they felt fresh. They became great because they kept going while feeling worn out.
You see, the tired hands that keep working build more than the rested hands that wait. It is important that we look at it. Think about it. If you only work when you feel strong, you will work very rarely. Energy is not a gift that arrives on schedule. Most days it hides. Actually, most days you must start before you feel like starting, and then the energy shows up later as a reward for beginning.
So motivation follows emotion, not the other way around. People wait for the feeling to come first, right? They sit and say, "When I feel inspired, I will begin." But inspiration is a shy guest. It visits those who are already busy. Pick up the tool. Open the book. Lace up the shoes. Make the call. The feeling you were waiting for will walk in after you have already started. That's how it has always been.
Now, I'm not telling you to destroy yourself. I'm not telling you to ignore your health or to never rest. Rest is wise. Rest is part of the work. A blade that is never sharpened soon gets nothing. But there is a great difference between resting and quitting. Rest says, "I will recover and return." Quitting says, "I will stay down." Learn the difference, because your future depends on it.
Here is a simple test. Ask yourself, "Am I tired, or am I just afraid?" Very often, what we call tiredness is fear wearing a comfortable coat, or fear wearing a double-breasted suit. That's all. We are not tired of the work. We are afraid of failing at it. We are afraid of being seen trying and not succeeding. So we say, "I am too tired today," and we feel better for a moment. But the dream stays unbuilt. It has always been like that. Let us not be pathetic.
You see, fear is a loud liar, and comfort is a small thief. That's how it has always been. Fear shouts that you cannot do it. Comfort says that you can do it tomorrow. Both are stealing from you. Both want you to stay exactly where you are. And where you are today is not where you were meant to end.
You see, let us talk about tomorrow, since so many of us live there, right? "Tomorrow I will start. Next week I will change. After the holiday I will be serious," and so on and so on. But tomorrow is the favorite home of unfinished dreams. Nothing is ever built there. No book is written there. No race is won there. Tomorrow is a place we visit in our minds to avoid the work we must do today.
You see, the truth is very simple. You only ever have today. Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow is a promise that may never be kept, or may not be kept. Today is the only ground that you can stand on, and the only ground on which anything can be built.
There's a beautiful saying in the Kung Fu Panda movie, right? The master, Oogway, tells the panda, "Yesterday was history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift. That is why it is called the present." It's beautiful, right? So a small step taken today is worth more than a giant plan for tomorrow.
Do not be fooled into thinking you need a huge effort. You do not. You need a small effort. Repeat it. That's all. Ten pages a day becomes a book. One hour a day becomes a skill. One dollar saved at a time becomes a safety net. Tiny actions look foolish in the moment, but they add up like drops filling a bucket. Nobody notices the first drop. Everybody notices the full bucket.
So greatness is just ordinary effort that refuses to quit. It's as simple as that. Look at anyone you admire. You see their success, but you do not, or you did not, see their Tuesday afternoons, and how much they have cried, right? Many people admire me. At least my friends do. But the truth is that they have not seen how much I cried to gods and goddesses. How much I have cursed the gods and goddesses for giving me such a pathetic life, for taking my first lover away, and the relationship failed, and so on and so on. So everybody has been through it.
You do not see the mornings they wanted to stay in bed. You do not see the rejections, the failures, the long stretches where nothing seemed to work. You only see the finished picture. But behind every finished picture is a thousand tired days that someone decided to push through.
And here's the secret they will not tell you at the finish line. It never feels easy to them either. It never felt easy. Moving on from my first love seemed impossible. I told myself I would never fall in love again. I would never marry again. I would never trust a phone. But look at me. My brand name is Romance, Love, and Philosophy. I'm telling you, your feeling is just a passing emotion. It's not the ultimate.
Life is built in such a way that you will not stay stuck in one situation, whether you want it or not. You might be a great guy or an idiot guy. You cannot be angry always. You cannot be happy always. You cannot be sad always. You cannot be stuck with your past always. If you are stuck, then don't complain, because you feel comfortable with your past. Those people who tell me, "I'm stuck in the past," are entirely comfortable with the past. If you're uncomfortable, you would have found a way of moving on from it. So this is the thing. It never feels easy for them.
Also, the champion still feels the fear. The writer still stares at the blank page. The leader still doubts. They are not different from you because they feel less. They are different because they act anyway. That is the thing. Courage is not the absence of weakness. It is the decision to move despite it. We all have heard it, right?
So when the alarm rings and your body begs for more sleep, remember that the person you want to become is already awake. When the work feels heavy and your mind offers ten good excuses, remember that excuses are just well-dressed laziness. An excuse is a lie we tell ourselves to feel better about doing nothing. You are smart enough to see through it. You are strong enough to ignore it. That's how it is.
Let me speak now to those who feel they have been trying for so long without results. I know that feeling. I too have been there. You work and work, and the world seems not to notice. When I began social media, hardly ten people saw it. Even I thought, "What is the point? I prepare for so long and nobody watches." You wonder if it is worth it.
Let me tell you something true. The seed does not see the tree, but it must still break the ground. Underneath the soil, where no one can watch, roots are growing. Your effort is not wasted just because it is not yet visible. Some of the most important work happens in silence. Silence is more important than noise. Silence is more important than reading spiritual books or visiting a guru or fooling yourself in the name of spirituality.
So keep going. The result is closer than it appears, actually, and it often hides right behind the moment you want to quit. Many a person has given up one step before the door opened.
Now think about who is watching you. Not the crowd, but the people who depend on you, and the younger version of you who dreamed of a better life. That younger you is still inside, waiting to see whether you will keep your promise. Do not let them down. Every time you push through the tiredness, you tell that inner self, "I heard you. I'm coming through."
And remember, discipline is a form of self-love. It sounds strange, but it is true. To do what you must today is to be kind to the person you will be tomorrow. When you choose the hard thing now, you are handing your future self a gift. When you choose the easy thing, you are handing them a bill. Be generous to your future. Make it proud. It's as simple as that.
Comfort is a good servant but a terrible master. Enjoy it, but do not let it rule you. The moment comfort starts making your decisions, your life shrinks. It goes to dogs. You stop trying new things. You stop taking risks. You stop growing. Slowly, without noticing, you become a smaller version of who you could have been. Do not let that happen. Growth lives just outside the walls of comfort, and you must walk out of it to meet it.
Let me also say this. You do not need anyone's permission to start. You don't need a guru's grace or God's blessings or a goddess's appearance to begin your journey. God's grace and the goddess's blessings are equal to all, like the sun. But if you are pathetic enough to close the windows and doors and blame God, nothing can be done. Don't be those pathetic people who say, "Only when I have God's blessings can I improve." God's blessing is already there. All that you have to do is make use of it. The sun is already there. All that you have to do is walk out from the door and look at it, and begin your day. It is as simple as that.
You do not need the perfect plan. You do not need the perfect moment or the perfect mood. Perfect conditions never arrive. Brave people simply begin without them. That's the secret. If you wait for everything to line up, you will wait forever. Begin messy. You will learn from your wisdom anyway. Begin scared. Begin tired. Just begin.
And when you stumble, because you will, do not turn it into a reason to stop. A fall is only a failure if you decide to stay on the ground. So stand up, brush off the dust, learn the lesson, walk on, and move on. It's as simple as that. The moment you learn the lesson, you won't repeat it. Even if you repeat the mistake, you will again get the lesson and move forward. It's very simple.
Every person you admire has fallen more times than you can count. You all see the videos and say, "Oh, so good." But you do not know how many times I have stumbled, how many times I have retaken the video just because I messed up the teleprompter, just because I messed up a line. So it happens like that. It is natural. It's okay. They simply got up one more time, and they fell, and they moved forward. That's all.
Strength is not what you have when life is easy. It is what you find when life is hard. You will not discover your real power on the good days. You will find it on the days when everything in you says stop, and something deeper says, "One more step." That deeper voice is you. That is your real self. Listen to it.
Here is what I want you to do tonight or tomorrow morning. When the tiredness comes, and it will, do not argue with it. Do not fight it. Just acknowledge it, and then do the next small thing. Anything. Not the whole task, just the next small thing. Write one sentence. Walk one block. Make one call. The longest journey is crossed by one tired step at a time. Remember that.
And when you finish, notice how you feel. Not the tiredness, but the small pride beneath it. That pride is the sound of someone keeping a promise to themselves. There is no pillow softer than a day well spent. Keep that in your mind. You will sleep deeply tonight. Not because the day was easy, but because it was honest.
Let this be your way of life. Not the burst of effort that is followed by long silence, but the steady, stubborn rhythm. Consistency beats intensity, and persistence beats talent. Persistence beats talent. The tortoise did not win by being fast. It won by never stopping. So keep that in your mind.
So let the world stay indifferent. Let nobody clap. Let nobody notice. The best work is often done in the dark, before the applause begins. So you are not doing this for them. You are doing this for the life you want, for the people you love, and for the person you are still becoming.
Nobody cares how tired you are. That is not cruelty. That is freedom. It means the only person you have to answer to is yourself. It means the only permission you need is your own. It means that the power to change your life was never in someone else's hand. It was always in yours.
So rise, move, work, build, fail, and rise again. It's as simple as that. What you do while tired will define who you become. Nobody cares how tired you are. Do it anyway.
Now, enough with the entertainment. Now coming to the main message. The person who is tired is the body and mind, not the real you. You are that unblemished awareness on which the entire drama of life and the world is existing. Whether you are tired, whether your life is good or bad, pathetic, spiritual, unspiritual, and so on and so on, you are already the root on which the entire life is existing. Turn your mind within and see things for yourself. Then you will understand that you have been that awareness and nothing alone. Then your own wisdom will guide you on how to live and how to move forward. It is very simple.
You are that awareness. You are not this body and mind. You are not spirituality. You are not books. You are not gurus, organizations, and so on and so on. You are not this speech. You are not the person who is listening. You are that on which the person and the listening are taking place. So this can be understood not by speaking to me, not by listening to me, but by turning your mind within. Then you will see that you have always been liberated. Then you will see that you do not need any method to be who you are. You will understand that you are already divine.
Ultimately, I will conclude my speech by saying that follow the message, not the messenger. You are the self-aware reality which is the substratum of all, whether you like it or not, or believe it or not. Thank you.
